Firstly, we’ve been to town a few weeks ago, and to visit a lot of places, in the final in several scenes we choice of the primary school shooting. Here the primary school like a big house big family, with schools in China is totally different. A primary school in China, almost a thousand people, it is also a different educational methods from here.  Before we go to the village of shooting, I wrote a detailed shooting through, including our location filming and interview figure. In my plan originally hoped to be able to come to the school shooting kids go to school for the morning in beginning of our documentary. However, due to Coventry school here starting somewhat late, at the time we reached the village, the children already in school, and this made me feel very sorry.

Then, in the primary school shooting, we had confused the question about the interviewee, should be interviewed headmaster and teachers? Or interview the children? Because if interview teachers, they can in the interview that the more mature and professional. If interview children, perhaps a little esoteric problems, they might not know how to answer, it is difficult to grasp. However, we come to school to shoot the original intention is not to shoot the teachers how to work every day, we are here to take scene of the children an interesting life, their cute… so finally we chose the children as the interview object. So the interview questions also need to be adjusted as appropriate for the children’s problems, so that they can be answered. And because the ideas on the film have many clip result, so we shot in the primary schools 3 hours of material. For example, the children on a variety of classes, music lessons, PE, game time, lunch time, as well as school principals met to sing the school anthem time. But in the end the tutor for a limited time is 3 minutes, so we have a lot of good material which cannot be editing the film.

Thirdly, another problem is the question about my set up an interview. As the interviewee was a child, I set a few such problems like this: 1. Ask him mathematics: A. a simple arithmetic problem like 2+2=? B. then raising the difficulty like: 8+9=? 13+8=? … 2. Find the tallest student in class ask him: you look so tall, how do you do it?… 3. Find the favorite showing student hope they can said a funny joke… 4. Give them look at the photos like: Obama’s photo, Queen’s photo…and ask them do you know who them are? How do you know them? 5. Ask a choice question: if in the world have three things happiness, money and you can tranel everywhere, these three things as a gift for you, which one do you choose? 6. Ask children some questions about “love”. When will you say I love you? Have you say it before? Have you heard someone say it to you? You want to say I love you to whom? And do you know what is love? However, some issues did not meet I would expect the effect, for example question 4, When asked if it was able to identify them know Obama and the Queen, after this asking another question, do you know what their role is to do? Maybe can get the kids some very cute answers, for example maybe they will say Obama has done something for the black, so when the president. Or the Queen every day dressed up very nice for everyone to see  . . . . These issues are not well-is that my as a director’s mistaken.

Finally, I really like this course, after the practice has been a great harvest. Thanks the tutors and students help, Thanks the same group of classmates– Ning Qi (Peter) and Zhang Yingfeng‘s teamwork, Also thanks the classmate Gray, when he complete  his post-shooting also helped us.

We have chosen the location at the primary school. There is different from our Chinese primary school. And the kids’ naive and cute are deeply attracted us. We will as an onlooker to record that naive and natural land. As the authenticity of documentary showing a miniature of the adult world—the primary school.

Our shooting is divided into two main lines: One is from low to high grade the kid’s daily school life. Another one is with the kid’s simple interview.

In our short film will not join the commentary, we will use a lot of actual sounds, eg: the children’s shouts, cries, laughter intertwined. There are perfusion real feelings for the documentary. It’s more deeply rooted among.

*Process:

For the shooting first main line: for example the scenes are children go to school,  they happened some interesting things in the school, attend class…(music lesson, physical education, break time, meal time…)

And another shooting main line: we want to find a lot of children interview them.

For example the questions:

These problems maybe some adults think they are so boring, and even a little silly. But our aim is to get the kids‘ those cute and very interesting answer. Those answer who only to their age in order to answer.

We came to the Helmdon village，and not many young person to live here.  The village is very quite, when you walking on the road almost can not see other people. Karen told us that Helmdon has a population of around 950, the air is very fresh.

We observed a lot of places, there have from London to came this quiet village open the bar’ boss. And the old couple together open a little store, this store is the town’s only store. And in the church many Kind-hearted people help young mother look after baby. As well as reading room, elderly talking and eating at here. And the village’s primary school…

Just the beginning we wanted to choose bar shooting , But when we went to primary school, where completely different from our Chinese primary schools. The kids’ naive and cute are deeply attracted us, so finally, our group plans to shoot set at this lovely primary school.

When we visit the primary school, we heard of many school‘s situation from the headmaster, when she introduction the schol we see a lot of interesting things. so I was thinking a lot of ideas about of shooting here, the plans and scenes, as well as interviews with the object…

Initially, we plan to shoot target primary school headmaster and teachers, because they care for these children every day who will certainly be a lot of interesting things about the children talk with everyone, but then I think the interview with teachers is through the mouth of an adult who child’s things, may be not better as directly to interview the child is more able to achieve our desired aims and results. So we changed our plan to interview object set to the children.

Through the teacher’s introduction, I found several children, asking them whether they are willing to be interviewed, they are lively and lovely, very pleased agreed. finally we finished our shooting plan.

Postponed for a long time to see ‘Bolt’, because it is the end of 2008 Disney movie (animated category), it is must-see, so I do not look at trailers, do not look at introduction, even do not look at posters, in order to when I go to cinema to watch this film can have a complete impression, not to any bedding. 

Now animation has become increasingly attractive, from < Kung Fu Panda> and <WALL-E> to this <BOLT>, each films are all the classic, and people constantly want to look at. <BOLT> is also a successful Disney film, maintain a consistent theme of love and adventure.  If the film process of simple divided, could be like this: brilliant opening- is buried truth- can’t accept the fact- find self- return to the original.

<BOLT> is also a film has smiles, tears and the connotation, it is a 3D movie, so I went to the cinema watching this film, and I am very shocked. The story is not very complicated, ‘Bolt’ is a star dog (the little owner bought it from the pet store, after that ‘Bolt’ became a super-dog by father, at least ‘Bolt’ think he is a real super-dog in his heart). He and his little owner maintain world peace and fight against evil villains. This little girl and this dog always together can overcome any difficulty, but is that all this is false, and are acting. Until one day he lost on the street, with a cat and a hamster to start tracing trip together. On the road he found real himself and he doesn’t have supernatural power, he has never been a real good dog, he re-study of the meaning of life….

This is an adventure, a legend, a love and being loved, realize the dream story. This is a very cute film, a dog think he is a super dog, but don’t know how to do a real dog, lovely place are directed to a cat that has arranged to teach a dog how to do a dog. In fact, I have always felt that the Americans really have heroism plot, American movies are admired heroes exist, in any case, in this world need heroes, although the heroes are played.

I very like the black cat- ‘Mimi’, it is one of the film’s role. She also was a star, but it is a matter for her years ago, it is she does not want to face the truth. Then, she was moved by ‘Bolt’ and become Bolt’s first teacher, even more like a mother’s role. In addition to adventure together with Bolt, but also teach him to understand the real world knowledge and life.

Finally, it is worth mentioning is that <BOLT> theme song really very well. When I watch the film I fall in love with the song in this film. Before we remember the <Lion King>, <Beauty and the Beast>, <Aladdin> the theme song, and after that, I think perhaps we will remember <BOLT> the theme song. It’s really a nice song.
